Navigation Systems (CNS — Navigation)
Navigation aids (NAVAIDs) are the physical beacons that guide aircraft along routes and through approach and landing phases.
Service Overview
Navigation aids (NAVAIDs) are the physical beacons that guide aircraft along routes and through approach and landing phases. Imperial East Africa supplies and installs the full range of ICAO-certified navigation infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on precision approach systems that enhance all-weather operations at East African airports.
Scope of Services:
Instrument Landing System (ILS):
Precision approach and landing guidance systems — Category I, II, and III — providing localizer and glidepath signals to approaching aircraft. Imperial supplies Intelcan's SKYNAV ILS, rated to Category IIIB for operations in near-zero visibility conditions.
Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)
Ground-based transponders that provide aircraft with precise slant range distance from the station — critical for approaches and en-route positioning.
VOR / DVOR Systems
VHF Omnidirectional Range beacons providing aircraft with radial navigation information for en-route and terminal area navigation.
NDB (Non-Directional Beacon) Systems
Medium frequency non-directional beacons for terminal and en-route navigation, including marine NDB variants for coastal and island operations.
PAPI / VASIS Visual Approach Aids
Precision Approach Path Indicators and Visual Approach Slope Indicator Systems — light-based visual aids providing pilots with glidepath guidance during visual approaches.
Runway Lighting Systems Interface
Integration of navigation systems with airfield ground lighting and runway lighting control systems.
