Service Overview

Aviation weather is a safety-critical service. Pilots, controllers, and flight dispatchers rely on accurate, real-time meteorological data to make decisions that protect lives. Imperial East Africa, in partnership with MicroStep-MIS, provides complete AWOS installations and meteorological monitoring systems for airports, aerodromes, and national meteorological authorities.

Scope of Services:

Automated Weather Observing Systems (AWOS)

Integrated multi-sensor weather stations installed at airports and aerodromes, measuring and reporting wind speed and direction, visibility, Runway Visual Range (RVR), cloud base height (ceilometer), present weather (precipitation type), temperature, dewpoint, humidity, barometric pressure, and lightning activity.

Ceilometers:

Laser-based cloud height measurement instruments providing continuous, accurate ceiling data for approach and landing operations.

Present Weather Sensors:

Optical sensors detecting the type and intensity of precipitation (rain, drizzle, snow, fog) for METAR and SPECI reporting.

Anemometers & Wind Sensors

Precision ultrasonic and cup anemometers for wind speed and direction measurement at threshold, touchdown zone, and mid-runway positions.

Visibility Sensors (Forward Scatter Meters):

Instruments measuring meteorological optical range and RVR to support low-visibility operations and CAT II/III approaches.

Barometric Pressure Sensors:

High-accuracy digital barometers for QNH, QFE, and QFF measurement — critical for altimeter setting services.

Climatological Monitoring Stations:

Long-term environmental monitoring infrastructure for national meteorological authorities, research institutions, and climate data networks.

Weather Data Management & Display Systems

Centralised software platforms collecting, processing, and distributing meteorological data to ATC workstations, ATIS systems, and meteorological offices.

ATIS Integration

Automatic Terminal Information Service feeds driven by live AWOS data — providing pilots with standardised weather briefings before approach and departure.
